Part Consolidation
As the equipment technology continues to advance, redesign of heritage products and consolidation of assemblies becomes more feasible. We are at the forefront of the Mechanical Engineering Design and Analysis, utilizing latest technology and know-how. With every assembly part eliminated, multiple additional process benefits get realized; for example: supply chain reduction (purchasing, planning, logistics, inventory management), BOM and inspection simplification, faster assembly, and many others. When it comes to manufacturability, reduction in tooling, materials, and processing time yield additional benefits. Ultimately, part functionality such as greater stiffness or stability, mass reduction, or even thermal resistance, complete the business case for part consolidation.
This clamping unit used in Comau welding and assembly operations was redesigned for additive manufacturing, enabling the three-part assembly (left) to become just one piece (right).
